ESTIRPE

2021. A short film performed by non-actors using the traditional Lazarim masks from Portugal. A ritual around a “chosen one” is celebrated, where the mask boosts the collective experience and easily dilutes individual identity. The world starts from the premise that people can recognize each other, but the social masks work to blur this transparency; the politics of extremes, already with a well-marked past in history, haunt our future, manifesting themselves in small ideas, symbols and signs, perpetuating the apocalyptic idea of order, supremacy and hierarchy of a single class. There is a political and ideological delirium: we dream of the determination in which the governmental machine will come to supply – for better or for worse – the obvious insufficiency of the leaders and apparatus of today's politics.
